Piano Movers

Pianos are very expensive musical instruments. A simple piano costs around $2000 while a Steinway costs up to $8000. Moving a piano requires the expertise that only experienced movers have. A piano is a work of art and must not be treated like any old piece of furniture. The mover should provide references in the form of former customers. Local moves cost about $50 to $200.

Piano repair is costly and time consuming. The original finish and tuning of the piano may never be restored, once damaged. Good piano moving requires good equipment and moving techniques. Even though professional movers may be expensive, they are often worth the cost.

Grand pianos are taken apart piece by piece, by experts. The carefully disassembled parts are wrapped in special blankets. These parts are then put on a board and secured with straps. Piano legs are similarly wrapped and strapped. A wooden rail is put on the keys to prevent them from falling. The piano parts are strapped to a board. This board is then put on a dolly. The dolly is a platform, which has wheels. Moving the piano up stairs is a Herculean task. For this a skid is required.

The lightest pianos weigh around 300lbs.They are really difficult to move. They are not only heavy but have an irregular shape. They need to be handled carefully. Most pianos are artistically crafted. During the move the movers take care that the smooth finish of its exterior is not lost. It takes about three men of average build to do the moving job.

Trying to move the piano on one's own can be a tedious task. There is risk of personal injury and damage to the piano. Professional piano movers are usually companies who move pianos to showrooms from the manufacturers. They have all the equipment and expertise.
